We are pleased to announce our ACS CATL division summer school webinar series. The summer school will consist of a series of four one hour lectures held over four weeks that will teach foundational ideas in catalysis research. Lectures will be followed by an interactive Q&A session. This series will be an outstanding introduction for students new to the field. The webinars are particularly geared toward graduate students, but students and more senior researchers alike are welcome to attend. Attendance is free to division members, and members who attend all 4 webinars will receive a certificate of participation and CATL division branded spirit wear. The lectures will cover three key fundamental topics that are essential for carrying out state of the art catalysis research, followed by a 4th lecture illustrating how these approaches can be used in a promising emerging field.

The lectures will cover the following topics:

Date/Speaker/Topic (All webinars will be held at 2PM Eastern time)

July 13th/ Michele Sarazen (Princeton)/ Catalytic kinetics and transport Phenomena

July 20th/ Liney Arnadottier (Oregon State)/ Coupling experiments and theory

July 27th/ George Tsilomelekis (Rutgers)/ Spectroscopy & catalysis

August 3rd/ Phil Christopher (UCSB)/ Catalysis with supported single atoms

Registration for the webinars is free for CATL division members. CATL division membership is free for graduate students who are ACS members. CATL division membership is similarly $10 for affiliates (non ACS members) and regular ACS members https://www.acs-catalysis.org/membership. If you are not sure about your ACS and technical division membership status, please check the ACS membership website.

Please help us to spread the word and encourage your students and colleagues to sign up! Space is limited, so please act fast to reserve a spot.

Sincerely,

The Catalysis Science and Technology (CATL) Division solicits applications for CATL-ChemCatBio Graduate Student Travel Awards, covering the registration fee of graduate students presenting at the Fall 2022 ACS National Meeting to be held August 21-25, 2022 in Chicago, Illinois.

The travel awards aim to further the shared goals of the ACS CATL and ChemCatBio Consortium to provide educational opportunities in catalysis, support professional development of young scientists, and foster diversity and inclusion in chemical process research.

Students must be an ACS CATL Division Member to be eligible. Membership is free for students; apply for membership here.

Please send as a single PDF file, in an email attachment:

  1. Notice of abstract acceptance for a CATL-sponsored symposium

  2. CV of the graduate student

  3. Nomination letter from the student's PhD advisor

  4. ACS Member number of the nominator and the nominee

Include CATL REGISTRATION AWARD APPLICATION (in capital letters) as the subject. Forward documentation to the ACS CATL Assistant at contractor.acs.catl@gmail.com by July 15, 2022.

Applicants are encouraged to defer paying for conference registration; registration will be paid directly by the Division for awardees.

Sincerely,

Bill Schneider Josh Schaidle

The Catalysis Science and Technology Division (CATL) of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is pleased to announce that Prof. Eranda Nikolla, Wayne State University, is the recipient 2022 ACS Catalysis Lectureship for the Advancement of Catalytic Science, co-sponsored by the ACS Division of Catalysis Science & Technology and the journal ACS Catalysis. The Lectureship recognizes specific and recent contributions to the field of catalysis by an individual or team. Prof. Nikolla is being recognized for advancing the understanding of electrocatalytic reactions, specifically those by complex non-stoichiometric mixed-metal oxide catalysts in both low and high temperature electrochemical devices.

Prof. Nikolla joins Profs. Daniel Resasco, University of Oklahoma, Exceptional Achievements in Catalysis, and Matteo Cargnello, Stanford University, Early Career Award in Catalysis, as recipients of the Division's three annual awards. The accomplishments of all three will be celebrated during awards symposia to be held as part of the Fall 2022 American Chemical Society National Meeting, Chicago, Illinois, August 21-25, 2022.

As a reminder, applications for the CATL-ChemCatBio Graduate Student Travel Awards for the Spring 2022 National Meeting are due February 28, 2022.
